Aloha friends! The holidays are here! Everyone is so busy prepping for the holidays including me! All of the rushing shopping, decorating and all of that stress! With all of this madness, we sometimes forget the meaning of giving. I have to remind myself that some people don't have anyone to celebrate with.
How would you like to join my family and me in sharing in the joy of making a difference in someone's Christmas? This is something that our family likes to do during the holidays. With the help of family and friends, we have donated toys to charities such as The Ronald McDonald House and Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & children (long term care for children) unit. It is such a good feeling to give. We should always feel blessed each and every day and give thanks for what we have, but it's something about the holidays, at least for me that is, that makes me feel like doing a little something extra to bring joy to someone else's life.
This year, we decided to bring some smiles to our senior citizens! What we would like to do is to collect socks to help our seniors keep their feet nice and toasty on our chilly Hawaiian evenings. Living in tropical paradise somehow thins the blood and it sometimes it does get cold! We haven't selected a specific care home just yet, but depending on how many donations of socks we receive, we will choose a couple of care homes to share the joy. We are, however, thinking of possibly going to the Manoa Care Homes since Eric used to work at these homes before he had his knee surgery. We are in the process of getting permission to visit and deliver the socks.
If you would like to share the joy to brighten a life of one of our seniors, you can participate in our "socks for seniors" holiday cheer by sending a pair of socks to me for a senior. The socks do not have to be expensive socks. I will accept donations of socks for both male and female, various sizes, colors - whatever you donate, we will find a feet to fit them! I will wrap each donation in a festive cello bag and also attach a holiday tag with your name on it (first name).
Won't you join us?? We are looking forward to bringing joy to our seniors and would truly appreciate any donation. You may send your donation of socks to me Teri Suzuki, 41-049 Manana Street, Waimanalo, HI 96795 or let me know if I can pick it up from you (local, of course!) and I will coordinate the pick up. Email me or call me 230-0005. For those of you far away, if you would like to join in on this caring activity, please feel free to send me a pair of socks. I will accept donations til December 10th as I will be wrapping them and then we will make the delivery possibly on December 15th.
There is so much for me to be thankful for! I give thanks to each one of you who has touched my life. Whether you choose to support me in this giving venture, please know that I appreciate you!
Hugs and blessings,
Teri

babelfish
I love babelfish. I went to the Tokyo galleries website, and translated the little blurb they have beside my name. It came out saying this:
The Canadian edition mania artist who loves ジャパニメーション. The ancient abvssal fish and the birds and beasts the fine hand drawing of motif become popularity, expand the fan to with North America, Europe and Asia.
Thats what I do with my time when I can't sleep...

Last project from the Holiday packaging class
You've all seen this project posted all over blogland already, but I just had to make one! After I got my Scor-Pal, wow! it was easy to do! Okay, okay, I made one alien looking star, but after Wini figured it out and made me a sample to see, it was easy to do. Here's my version of the Star Box created by Diana Crick, creator of the wonderful Scor-Pal.
Love the Wintergreen DS paper. Other supplies: Very vanilla, Blue Bayou and Mellow Moss CS, grosgrain ribbon - it was a retired color (sorry forgot the name of it!), 1/16" hole punch, silver cord and the stamp came from Holiday Tag Team.
Oh!, I am working on doing that tutorial for my giftcard holder - I've just got to take the pictures and then I'll post. The measurements will be included! Thanks for being patient!
My November RAK from Monique
Time seems to escape from me more than usual, especially at this time of the year. I'm sure this is common, right ladies?? I was thrilled to receive my November RAK from Monique through Jen's JT Monthly Aloha RAK Club! What a beautiful Thanksgiving card! I also got a pack of Making Memories blossoms, so pretty! Thank you Monique! Check out Moe's blog HERE! She has some cute stuff there!
Aloha Monique!
open studio + tokyo
A couple things going on... If you are in Toronto on Thursday, I'll be working with a technician to produce some screen prints during the Open Studio open house (in the 401 Richmond building). I'm not sure exactly what is going on, but from 6 - 9 theres a silent auction, selling off some of the Open Studio members' prints, and I think the technician and I will be making some of my screen prints on the spot... I'm not much of a pro at screen printing, so we'll see how they turn out. I guess thats why I'm working with a technician...
If you're not familiar with Open Studio, go to their website. I'm not TOO sure what goes on in there, its a massive room filled with every printmaking device I knew existed, and they have memebers, and they make prints...
I'm not too sure what I'll be printing, I was thinking one of these two images that I drew last week:
The second one is a small pen and ink version of the crocodile image from my show in September, the first one is a iguana finch of some sort... the originals are both draw on the same page, and make up a larger composition... man, I just typed so much boring stuff in a row..
I typed that stuff this morning. Now it's night. I met the technician today and he seems like a really nice guy, he and Jill, the woman that asked me to participate helped me out a lot with preparing my image today... Working with nice people is pretty great...
Here's the flyer for the night..
OKok, Tokyo. I'm in a group sow in Tokyo on December 2nd. Tomolennon, a Tokyo born artist living here in Toronto is putting on a group show of Toronto artists in a gallery in Tokyo that he co-directs. The gallery is located within a bath house, which I think is pretty awesome. I went to he website, and its a bunch of Japanese text I can't read, and photos of people getting massages.
And like the people at Open House, Tomolennon seems like a really great guy, he was really courteous and patient when we met...
So yes, I'm excited, this is my first time showing in Tokyo, I get to show with a bunch of artists that I have a lot of respect for, some really strong Toronto talent. I won't post my work on here again, I sent a set of the grid prints that I've already posted on the blog twice, so you can scroll down and see them if you are interested...

Special exhibition
Toronto Underground
Selection of Toronto's most promising emerging artists

-Fiona Smyth
-Kirsten Johnson
-Christopher Hutsul
-Nicholas Di Genova
-Harvey Chan
-Gregory John Hern
Art x Life gallery will present an exhibition introducing, for the first time in Japan, 7 of Toronto's most promising emerging artists at a crucial time in their career.
Toronto is the largest financial, cultural and entertainment centre in Canada, named by UNESCO as the world's most multicultural city, but the city's native culture is still unknown. Diversity of race, religion and lifestyle help define and set Toronto apart from other world cities. Toronto is considered one of the world's most diverse cities wherein over 100 languages are spoken. The nature of Toronto's multiculturalism is reflected in its wonderful mosaic of distinctive neighborhoods, a global village of Mixed EWorld Heritage.
Now, for the first time, Japanese can experience the rich cultural diversity of Toronto through contemporary art. The exhibition includes work by tomolennon, a Japanese-born artist well known for his large-scale figurative portrait series called Sleeping Beauty, innovative in its approach of combining art and fashion. With more than 21 years of experience, Fiona Smyth is a leading representative of Canada's contemporary art scene. She was born in Montreal and moved to Toronto in the late 70's and became an all-round artist, making paintings, illustrations, murals and comics. Kirsten Johnson is a Toronto based visual artist whose work appears in private and public collections all over North America, Europe and Australia. Her work often involves a fusing of her visual work with her strong background in performance. Christopher Hutsul is a British Columbia native artist, writer, and emerging film director. His humorous but "cutting-edge" quality of drawings appears everywhere around the city from local galleries to newspapers and magazines. Nicholas Di Genova is a recent graduate of the Ontario College of Art and Design. He is known for his illustrations of flora and fauna that will populate this planet millions of years after the Apocalypse. Harvey Chan is a Hong Kong native. After graduating from Ontario College of Art and Design, Harvey pursued his career as an illustrator. He has illustrated many children's books and has been short-listed for the Governor General's Award twice in his prestigious career. Gregory John Hern is a young Toronto born photographer, just graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design. He is best known for his large domestic tableaux using himself as the family archetypes.

[COJAC, Centre of Japanese Arts and Culture]
Centre of Japanese Arts and Culture (COJAC) formed in 2005 dedicated to generating new bonds of understanding of Japan and the Japanese through art and cultural programs. COJAC contributes to local communities culturally and socially by supporting artists who introduce and share Japanese culture with local communities, and by creating a place for artistic activities through the organizing of exhibits, educational programs, and providing networking services. This contribution helps to foster a mutual understanding of one's own culture while it also promotes the creation of culturally active communities.
It is our intention to support various Japanese and non-Japanese artists whose work relates to Japanese culture by affording the artists the opportunities to exhibit or perform their artistic activities.

Wonderful weekend and another xmas project
I made it through the weekend! It was such a busy weekend with the Christmas craft fair at the Blaisdell Center. Funny that I see lots of people once a year at this fair, people that I don't usually get to see for one reason or another. It was nice to see the familiar faces! I got to meet Charlotte and saw Judie and Monique and lots of "aunties". Thanks ladies for stopping by! Here's a pic of cousin Jill and me working on Saturday night and a pic of Jill by some of the products. We sold out on almost everything!
Okay, here's another pic from my holiday packaging class. This is a pic of the origami box. I love this box! I saw this cool idea on Kristina Werner's blog called kwerner design blog. She has so many great ideas! If you're interested in making this cool box, Kristina also has a video you can watch as she makes this box. You can check out her video here. This is the link to her tutorials and you must scroll down to the origami box tutorial. The thing that caught my eye was that the ribbon covered the staple that holds the band and ribbon on the box top...you gotta watch the video here.
Here's my recipe: DS paper - Dashing, 5/8" old olive grosgrain ribbon, real red CS (12X12 for the box bottom and another strip for the band); vanilla CS, stamp set used was the level 2 hostess Perfect Presentation (to and from) and the candy cane came from the Hung Up on the Holidays stamp set; gold cord.
I am pooped so I'm signing off so I can feel decent for back to work Monday! Thanks for looking! {{hugs!}}
old road of knives...
I was just scanning previous entries, and for some reason the road of knives page I did previous to this one is not showing up... Uh, maybe it is just my computer, but I'm going to post it again anyway...
Also, in case you miss the link on the right, you can see all the action here.

I just finished my new road of knives page... We are trying to put more emphasis on setting, so I drew Zak's Medusa lady leaving her house...
I can't draw people.
Busy Craft show weekend and another giftcard holder
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! This year, Eric cooked the turkey AND the pies! He found this recipe online for pumpkin pie with eggnogg in it - oh yummy! Well, the 2007 holiday season has officially begun! I can't believe another year has zipped by and I'm helping Carri and Eric again at the 3-day craft fair at the Blaisdell Center. Carri and Eric are the owners of Berry Sweet Bath & Body. For you local gals, if you've never visited Berry Sweet's store, they are located between 9th and 10th Avenue in Kaimuki and right across from Harry's Music Store. To catch some of the updates, you can check out their website under live journal. When time permits, Carri gives you the heads up on her new products. Of course, for the past two months, it's been an adjustment period for Carri & Eric as they welcomed their first precious bundle, Kira, in September. Anyway, back to the products! My favorite product? The body Souffle! This is a wonderful whipped lotion that I use after my shower every night - love it!! If you were planning to check out the show, don't forget to stop by to say hello!
Here's another gift card holder that was made at my last class. This card is so easy to make. I used the DS paper Dashing, real red and old olive CS, 5/8" old olive grosgrain ribbon, word window punch, stamp from the set Polka dots and paisley, horizontal slot punch and mega oval scallop punch and super jumbo oval punch by marvy. I'm trying to see if I can work up a couple of tutorials so you can see how easy these are to make! Not happening this weekend though - I'm getting ready to leave for the show. I'll try to bring my camera today to take some pics. If you are doing holiday shopping this weekend, hope you were able to get some of those awesome deals that were advertised! Have a great Saturday!
More holiday inspiration!
I posted this card as a sneak peek on November 14th. This is a gift card holder that looks like a card on the outside and when you open it up, there's pocket for the gift card. The story goes that when I was trying to select the projects for this class, I came across this idea page that I printed out in, check this - December 2006...with no instructions attached, no link - what was I to do??? I was really determined to do this card as I had my customers request for gift card holders. I do love how it turned out. Here's the inside of the card and a close up of the embellishment.
Recipe: Dashing DS paper, mega scallop rectangle punch, super jumbo rectangle punch, All Holidays stamp set, 5/8" real red GG ribbon, old olive and real red CS, small corner rounder punch, mega scallop oval punch, super jumbo oval punch, rhinestone, So Many Sayings stamp set.
Thanks for looking! Stay tuned for more projects from my class! The holidays are here!
Happy Monday! What a super busy weekend for me! This past Saturday was my last class of the year. This was the holiday packaging and giftcard holder class and we had so much fun!
Here is one of the projects that we did. This fabulous idea called the double pouch gift bag came from a tutorial I spied on Corinne's blog, Stamping with Roxy. Corinne amazes me with all of her awesome projects, not to mention the easy to follow tutorials! Please stop by her blog and tell her I sent ya! I must say the project was super easy when using the Scor-Pal. If you don't have a scor-pal, you might want to check out the website for this wonderfully cool tool. I am so glad that I bought one!! Here's my recipe: Dashing Designer Series paper, jumbo eyelets - antique brass, Big on Christmas stamp set, burgandy grosgrain ribbon, purely pomegranate CS, very vanilla CS. I love this bag!! Thanks for stopping by today - Thanksgiving week!!! I will be posting the rest of the projects during the week!!
everything's coming up nick...
A while back I was contacted by Belio Magazine out of Spain. They asked if I would be interested in putting a book together with them. I said shit yes, I sent them tons of images, they put a ton of work into editing and compiling the book, and now its coming out very soon.
I'm not sure how much it will cost, exactly when it will be released, or where it will be available. I do know that it will be 192 pages, full colour, and 14 cm x 15 cm.
It is part of their Die Young Book Collection, and you can see other books in the series here.

Lunch hour craft session
I was tickled to do a mini session during our lunch hour last week for a few girls in one of our departments. Needed to do something to motivate these gals as they haven't been doing too much crafting since the summer, is that right?? Kel? Cat? Are you guys checking out my blog?? Cat, did you not share the info?? Okay, enough of the small inside jokes with these girls. In addition to making one of the tags from my Christmas tag class and one gift card holder from my November class, we made this cute 6X6 scrapbook page.
Recipe: Old olive, real red and basic cardstock, a strip of designer series paper from the Dashing set, Merry & Bright snowman, scallop circle punch, 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" circle punches, photo corner punch, gold mini brads, snow flower punch, rhinestone brad, JOY stamp from the hostess level 2 set Perfect Presentation and white gel pen.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Last class of the year!
Happy Wednesday everyone. Hey!, the holidays are already here!! OMG! how could it be here?? I'm not ready yet!! **sigh**
This Saturday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at my home, I will be having my last class for 2007. We will be finishing up the year with a **bang** ! This is my holiday gift card and packaging class and I just love the 5 projects that we'll be doing! They will all be featuring the Designer Paper series as this is Stampin' Up!'s November's promotion. Buy 3 paper packs and get the 4th pack FREE!! You can check out the fabulous selection on pages 170 - 173 in your Fall Winter Collection catalog. Our fun projects will be featuring the very popular (and my personal favorite) Dashing and my new favorite, Wintergreen.
The class has a few spots left, so if you are interested, please send me an email right away!!
Here's a sneak peek at one of the projects that we'll be doing. This gift card holder opens up with a cute pocket inside. The rest of the projects will be posted after Saturday. Thanks for coming by for a look!
The ransom was delivered and more holiday tags
Hellooo...I can hear the echo...so empty in here! I can't believe that I've been off the blog for a while. I've been abducted by work, classes and obligations!! Can you believe that my last post was November 3rd? Oh my! I am made to believe that I was captured by that thing called STRESS and that the ransom must've been paid today because I'm finally back! haha! Nothing like kidding around to get me in a better mood. I missed you all and have been collecting projects so I can keep you guys up-to-date with what I've been doing! Thank you to Jen for the "pep talk" and Dawn G for the concern and encouragement - love you guys!
Well, remember my tag class? I never finished posting the whole set, so, here it is! You've already seen some of them, but I thought since it was sooooo long ago, I'd do it all here once again. I had 9 kits left and had such a hard time "catching up" to put them all together. With a little encouragement from my friends and help of course from Wini (Thank you!!) I'm finally putting the rest of the tags together. Each tag packet comes with a sample so you'll know how to assemble them. Each image had to be stamped because some of the kit buyers don't own all of those stamp sets! Win, I owe you big time!! XOXO
These last two tags were the ones I never posted. This gift enclosure was inspired by a post I saw on Nichole Heady's blog called {Capture the Moment} (love this blog!!) Have you all visited the Papertrey Ink site? Love their stamps! Here's the side view.
Back to the project! I used my giga scallop square punch using Ballet Blue cardstock. The front piece is a 2x2 whisper white square and the back is a 2x4 piece using whisper white and folded in half. Adhere that piece to the back of the square and there you have it! A quick and cute gift enclosure! I used the stamp set Snow Burst from the Holiday Mini catalog and the word Peace from Everyday Flexible Phrases. I used Ballet Blue ink and of course we couldn't forget the *bling* so I used my dazzling diamonds!
Now this tag is even easier than the gift enclosure. I used this stamp from the set Punch Pals. This stamp coordinates with the SU's circle scallop punch, perfect and super fast to make! I stamped the image using the color Handsome Hunter and the circle image with Purely Pomegranate. Punched out the circle with the 3/4" circle punch and adhered it with a stampin' dimensional. I used the silver cord (that SU no longer carries). The new elastic cording will work just as good, in fact, I like the elastic cord better because it doesn't fray (split).
Whew! Glad I'm moving on from tags. I love this class and the projects but it is so much work!! Thank you to those of you who attended my classes for the tags. I'm taking suggestions for next year - should we go simple?? Ha!

thank god for graval
Its been a good couple of weeks. I did two artist talks and they both went well I think... Man, I get so nervous for those things, like 'on-the-verge-of-throwing-up" type of nervous, but once I get up there its not so bad... One of the talks was for Ed Pien's class at OCAD, he is one of my favourite artists, you can look at his stuff here
There's a bunch of other links to his work on that page as well...
I've been spending a lot of time getting the new studio in working condition, the walls and floor are looking good now, and I have most of my stuff moved in...
Hmmm...earlier today I finished my new page for the Road of Knives: Uh, click on it, it looks better big...
I went to Canzine and TIAF a couple of weekends ago...Maybe I just don't like zines and art, cause neither of the fairs really did much for me... except I met a couple of gallerists from Marseille, they seem like nice and honest dudes and I'm going to be sending them some work for a couple of upcoming art fairs:
Dukan & Hourdequin
Uhh... I thought I had more to write than this... I'm going to save what I have and finish tomorrow...
OK, its tomorrow now, I remembered something that I forgot to include last night, I have a profile in this months Juxtapoz, thats exciting. Well, for me anyway...
The issue is so-so... I'm not that big on Shepard Fairey but Saelee Oh has a feature in this issue as well, I think she's pretty fantastic...
Ok, last couple of things. Andrew and I moved the rest of the stuff out of my old studio...
We thought it would be awesome to throw my roll of bubble wrap off the 8th floor fire escape. I got this photo of Andrew up there but you can't really see him. Then I didn't get any photos of it coming down, but it wasn't very awesome anyway, it just landed neatly beside andrews car. It was a really big letdown...
Now I'm pretty much set up in the new space, it feels good to have a place to work again...
Then andrew dressed up as a ghost and we drove around in his car...

A Rak for Debbie
Here's a card I made for my RAK to Debbie Harris of studio bee creations
I signed up for Jen's JT monthly Aloha RAK club and this was my rak to Debbie for the month of October. I got this layout from a card I saw over at Gina K Designs blog. By the way, if you haven't been to Gina K Designs, pop on over there to check out the great projects. She also has an online store with many cool and new stamps! I made a few changes to the card Gina K did, but kept the colors as this was a color challenge on SCS (that she did her card for).
My recipe: river rock, black and going gray CS, snowflake CB embossing folder, snowman from It's Snow Time! set and the word Noel came from Many Merry Messages. Ribbon from the Theatre Ribbon Originals. I colored my snowman using ink refills and a blender pen. I love how this card is so simple, yet elegant. Hope you all had a fun Saturday!
Spoiled by RAKS!!
Talk about spoiled! I love spoiling my friends too. This time, the tables were turned and I was so lucky to receive great RAKS from my friend Fay. She surprised me with these goodies! Clear stamps and acrylic blocks and rolls of ribbon from Michaels! One roll is missing because I already used it for my Halloween goodie bags. THANK YOU FAY! It was so thoughtful of you to share, I am grateful.
Here's a RAK I received from Jen . Holy moly sister! I love my new kitty stamps!! They are waiting patiently for me to ink them up! HUGS TO YOU for the fabulous RAK! I always feel so guilty when I get these RAKS. I feel like I need to do something back...okay, where are my time management notes??

More Halloween projects and an eventful Hallow-eve!
As usual, it all catches up with me {sound familiar???} and here I was on the eve of Halloween busy getting "treats" for the teachers. I've never heard of this before, but that afternoon, Nolan came home and told me that this was an optional thing, but they were having a "treat for the teacher" day. Giving the teachers treats was part of the festivities along with an optional Halloween costume contest. Now I'm new at this - you know, the transition of having notices sent home so we know what's going on in school drill. I'm still on elementary school mode, you know? Um, back to the gifts...it was absolutely too late to make stuff, soooooo we had to run to the mall to look for token gifts. The easiest was gift cards which we ended up getting for most of them (he has 6 teachers) and then of course a Garfield comic book for his social studies teacher. But wait! back up!...before we were able to go to the mall, he had to finish his science project! The project was to gather mud/water from a natural source. Eric took him to my aunt's house in Enchanted Lake to gather the specimen - ugh! Glad I wasn't a part of it! And thank goodness for my dad helping him put it together. Here's a couple of pics of the wonderful event. He now has to set this experiment in a cool place and make observations daily, oh how fun!
Okay, back to my Halloween projects!! Since all of these events happened in the time that I allotted to do MY Halloween projects, I had to haul all of my unfinished projects to work to finish. Did I tell you I ride public transportation?? I take the City Bus to work and I leave at 5:45 a.m. (whose still sleeping??) Anyway, I made these projects and finished them at work as most of these were to give to work people. I totally forgot my camera, so had to ask Kristen if she had one and she did! Thanks Kris for taking these pics! You all recognize this Starbuck's Frappuccino bottle...I filled it with black & orange m&m's, which was hard for me to find!! I love the spider from the Booglie Eyes stamp set! I used a Taken with Teal stampin' write marker and pulled off color with my blender pen, loved how it turned out! Also used the Creepy Crawly designer series paper to wrap around the bottle.
I did a whole bunch of these spiders and adhered them on the scalloped circles. They worked great on these lollipops! Can you see the hinged tin in the background? I love my hinged tin that I got from Papertrey, Ink. These tins can hold 12 Hersheys nugget candies. But since I ran out, I filled it with black and orange M&M's and candy corn. Added some DS paper, ribbon and the cute Frankenstein image also from the Booglie Eyes stamp set.
I also love these round tins! I ordered them from Jen through TAC...I love this mummy too! (he's also from the Booglie Eyes stamp set). I colored him the same way as I did the spider, very fast! Thanks for looking today!
