A Greeting of Aloha

After I made Rita's birthday card, I thought that I'd better make another card to go with some island goodies that I was bringing up for her. This is the card that I made. I just love this set even though it's already retired. I don't keep too many stamp sets that have retired, but these Hawaiian themed sets are hard to come by. I love the classic hula girl. A close up...
Here's the inside of the card...
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Short post today, I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Gotta make sure that I don't get sick! Thanks for stopping by today!

A Night of Aloha with Sterling and Shelli

Happy Aloha Friday! I posted a few photos a while back from Cindy's Night of Aloha, but I wanted to post the rest of the photos and just didn't have the time to do so. Hope you don't mind seeing these so after the fact.
My upline, Cindy B. won a workshop of a lifetime with Shelli Gardner (co-founder of Stampin' Up!) to come to her workshop here in Hawaii. How thrilling is that? Cindy was also honored at a gathering for being one of the few winners of this workshop. As one of her downline, I was invited to attend this memorable event at The Waioli Teahouse in Manoa. Here's Cindy giving her opening speech. Before the dinner, we were all able to take photos with Shelli and her husband, Sterling. OMG! I'm so short!
I took photos of my girls with the Gardners...here's Wini...
and my GF Myra...girlfriend, you looked so lovely all dressed up and ready for your hula! Thanks for driving us that night!
My DL Becky...everyone is so tall! haha!
Here's Karen doing the hula...
The yummy buffet...
My UL Cindy and GF Norine...
My GF Pam. Thanks Pam for the awesome slide show! Don't know how you do it!
Group photo with Shelli...
The goodies we all got to take home. Thanks to the ladies who worked so hard to prepare these beautiful gifts for us! Loved the cupcake in a jar and the special order pineapple cookie!
This cookie was super ono (delicious!).
We had a super time that evening. Congrats Cindy and thank you for a wonderful evening! It was such an honor to sit at the same table with Laura, Berd, Norine, you and the Gardners...

A Birthday Card for Rita

Thanks for all of your well wishes for Dad. It's just scary because we don't know what each day will bring, but we have learned that we will take it one day at a time and we will live each day to the fullest!
Before I left for my vacation, I really lost my mojo...I wanted to create so bad, but just couldn't bring myself to do it! The night before I left, I forced myself to make a birthday card for Rita since we were going to meet up. Here's what I ended up making. I was excited to use this embossing folder that I just ordered from SU. It's not a new folder, but I recently used it at Cindy's Hana Hou event and loved it! I wonder why I never ordered it?? I used a sponge to add some color and added some bling in the center of the flowers. Image is by TGF that I've been wanting to ink up for a while now. The sentiment, Wishes, is from my favorite stamp set called Fundamental Phrases. Punches used - scallop oval, large oval and small heart.
Here's a close up.
And here's the inside of the card. I used a MS punch for the edges. Sentiment is from a retired SU set.
I haven't gone back to work yet. Today, a PT came over to check Dad out to make sure that he is stable and to show us some exercises to strengthen his legs. It's comforting to know that he's in good hands. It's the weekend for me even though it's a Thursday. Furlough Friday tomorrow...enjoy the long weekend if you are on furlough tomorrow!

Bloggers Connect!

Hello blogland! Sorry that I was not able to post for the last week. Before I share some fun and exciting photos from my vacation, I wanted to say that I had a whole line up of posts but wasn't able to finalize the posting before I left for my vacation to Vegas with my sister and BIL. The morning of the day I was leaving, I noticed that my Dad was not behaving normally. He wasn't answering my questions and just stared at me with that "blank look". I was looking at him and it looked like his mouth was a little droopy and when he spoke to me, there was a slight slurr to it. The thought crossed my mind, but I was in disbelief to think that maybe he suffered a stroke? When my sister came to pick me up to go to the airport, we tried to hug Dad to say goodbye, but he refused. He was very honory and said No to everything we offered him. Eric finally convinced Dad that he needed to go to get checked out. Hours later, when we arrived in LV we got the phone call with the news that Dad did suffer a small stroke. Test after test and a few days later, Dad was released from the hospital. The miracle of this is that Dad can still walk, talk, function pretty normally except every once in a while, he gives us the blank stare or just cannot remember. That's the part of the brain that the stroke affected. Still, I am so thankful that we still have him here with us, although anything can happen in the days ahead. We are still meeting with PT's and appointments with a surgical team to determine if Dad is a candidate for surgery. Thanks for being patient with me and reading the above...on to something fun.
The last week, my sister and brother-in-law treated me to a trip to Las Vegas. The last time I was in Vegas, was for a Stampin' Up! Convention! This vacation was just for some R&R and I was thrilled to find out that one of my blogger friends all the way from Massachusetts was going to be in Vegas the same time as me! Rita and I became friends about three years ago through blogland! Can you believe that? Rita's blog is called Rita's Little Corner...please pop on over to show her some Aloha! Since Rita and Dan were staying at the beautiful Palazzo Hotel on the strip, we drove over to meet her. We stayed at the Main Street Station downtown. Here's a photo of the beautiful Palazzo! Here's a photo of me and Rita. We met in the lobby, it was beautiful!
Here we are in the hotel restaurant eating some very yummy but sinful dessert...
We walked around the hotel. This hotel is connected to the Venetian.
Look at all the yummy sorbet
It was so nice to walk around to see all of the fancy shops!
Me and my sister, Cheryl.
It was so nice to finally meet one of my blogging friends. I can't wait for you to visit us here in Hawaii Rita!! We will definately get together to craft!
I'll have more photos to share with you...more photos from Vegas and a couple of cards I made for Rita.
Thanks for sticking with me through a week on no posts!! Thanks to those who emailed me to check up on me! Love you guys!

in progress

a few things coming up…

I've just come off of a little vacation... I mentioned earlier that Jamiyla and I took an apartment above my studio, and it needed a lot of work, so I spent all of March and some of April fixing it up... It's mostly done now, and I spent the last couple of weeks back in the studio, it feels great to be back to work... I'm working on a few drawings, I'll post them when they are completed...

In the meantime, here are a couple of things coming up that I'm involved with…

The first is LIMITED: A Collaboration Project with CBE, a local producer of some really nice hoodies... Myself and 4 other artists designed a hoodie, and the launch is this saturday... Below are the details, it's a little small, so I'll quote the details. The opening is Saturday April 24th from 7:30 onwards, at 116 Geary Ave #201.

And you can see the CBE website here.

The next thing upcoming is a fundraiser that I am a part of, organized by Freedom Fighter Skateboards. A bunch of artists are making custom skateboards and they will be put up for silent auction at the opening, all proceeds going to Freeskates. The opening is May 8th, 7pm-12am, at 52 McCaul. Below is the flyer, and the board that I came up with... If you click on it it gets bigger...

You can see the Freedom Fighter Skateboards blog here.

One last thing, Jamiyla just had an article written about her in Plaid Magazine, here is the link.

Ok, that's everything for now... I should finish one of the new drawings in a week or so, I'll post it when I'm all done...

Facebook

The other day I had lunch with Anne Koyama of Koyama press (the publisher that put out Wunderkammer), and she suggested that I set up a facebook account to have more contact with art people... I had an account a couple of years ago, but when I moved to NYC I spent too much time on it missing my friends back in Toronto, so I deleted it... Anyway, if you want to follow some of the work I've been doing, we can be friends:)

Speaking of Wunderkammer, the first issue is still available on my store... You can purchase it here.

Leonard Paul Potter

The other day Jason Potter wrote a comment (See below) to the Blog regarding the October 16, 2009 entry entitled "The Potter-Sooy Connection".

Hey, I'm a junior in high school and doing a project about my family's heritage, and I typed in my dads dads name. Leonard Paul Potter Sr. I am Leonard Paul Potter Jr's son. I'm just curious to see whether or not this is my family's past. Other wise this is pretty cool how far back this dates. -Jason Paul Potter
I resonded that "The Potter-Sooy Connection" Blog entry was indeed Jason's family. Leonard Paul Potter, Sr. was a brother to Stephen Potter who was listed as the Eighth Generation.

Jason answered with the following comment.
Thank you for the info, I showed it to my dad, and he would be very interested in seeing his dad's pictures as well. He said we may have some that may be on interest to you. I have visited my great Uncle Bud and Aunt Millie a few times in New Gretna when we come down to our beach house on Long Beach Island. My dad has one of those Barnegat sneak box duck boats made at The Tuckerton Museum. Is there any info on the Potter side? Jason

Well, Jason, following are the photos I have of Leonard Paul Potter, Sr. I hope that you and your dad enjoy them.
